Britney Spears’ erstwhile manager and confidant, Sam Lutfi, is under criminal investigation on charges filed by Britney’s conservators that he drugged the troubled pop star to keep her under his control.

Law enforcement officials told TMZ Friday, February 15, that the Major Crimes Division of the LAPD is on the case.

Lutfi’s spokesperson, Michael Sands, acknowledged that he was aware of the investigation.

Lutfi, who continues to evade a restraining order issued against him on February 2, is unreachable.

Pop singer Avril Lavigne is launching a attack on the paparazzi for making Britney Spears life hell, calling them “fucking stalkers”.The outspoken Lavigne herself has been the victim of the paparazzi’s relentless pursuits, which have resulted in traffic violations and car accidents.And Lavigne feels sympathy for Spears, who is plagued by the ever intrusive photographers on a much bigger and more damaging scale than her. She tells Maxim magazine, “No one else has it as hard as Britney. I feel bad for her. How does she even think with all those flashbulbs? When I’m being followed, everything’s thrown off. They run red lights. They cause accidents.She can’t even walk to her car. Fucking stalkers.”

The Commissioner in Britney Spears’ conservatorship case has extended Jamie Spears’ tenure as conservator until the next hearing, March 10.

The judge granted a request to have Britney’s older brother, Bryan Spears, named as the trustee of his sister’s trust. Bryan, 30, and attorney Ivan Taback have been granted the authority to serve as co-trustees.

That was to be expected, but this next part? Out of nowhere.

A New York lawyer has filed papers in Federal court, asking that Britney’s conservatorship case be taken away from L.A. County Superior Court.

A commissioner will consider extending Jamie Spears’ temporary control over his daughter’s estate in a hearing Thursday afternoon, amid signs that his approach is keeping Britney Spears both safe and out of trouble.

Britney’s somewhat-estranged father has been overseeing her well-being and her enormous fortune since February 1, when L.A. Superior Court Commissioner Reva Goetz named him and attorney Andrew Wallet as co-conservators.

This temporarily gives them the right to control her finances, as well as hire bodyguards who protect Britney Spears and restrict her visitors.

So far, the co-conservators have done what they can to keep the pop star on a tight leash, forcing Britney to keep a (relatively) low profile - no pink wig, 4:30 a.m. Starbucks runs, twice weekly stays at the Four Seasons, etc.

Jamie Spears and Britney Spears have had a strained relationship for many years, but he seems to be genuinely trying to help his daughter get back on track.

PETA, the organization which was on Britney’s arse for a while about the pet abuse allegations, has turned around and is trying to help Britney in getting better.

In a recent letter to Britney’s mom, Peta president Ingrid Newkirk wrote:

“We have heard that Britney asked for ice-cream while she was in the hospital. There could, in fact, be a connection between her diet and her mental-health problems.

“Numerous reports indicate that in bipolar patients who have hidden dairy sensitivities (a fairly common condition), the disorder can worsen if the patient consumes dairy products.”

The organization suggested that Britney stops eating meat because medical research has shown there is a link between eating meat and the development of mental illness schizophrenia:

“A significant body of research - including evidence cited by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention - has linked parasites that are often found in undercooked meat (Toxoplasma gondii) to the development of schizophrenia.

“While the medical link between mental illness and meat and dairy consumption is still evolving, there is no doubt that eating animal products is a major factor in causing other diseases.”

Britney’s erstwhile manager and confidant, Sam Lutfi, who continues to evade a restraining order issued against him on February 2, has been trying to get in touch with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Britney’s behalf.

Lutfi was overheard talking over the phone Tuesday, February 12, to a reputed publicist, who worked with Schwarzenegger while he was an actor, requesting him to arrange a meeting between the Governator and Britney!

The eavesdropper told Daily News Gatecrasher that he heard Lutfi telling the publicist “Britney says her civil rights have been violated and she wants to talk to Arnold about it.”

“She wants the governor to look into why she can’t get an attorney!”

Gatecrasher speculates that the idea of dropping the ball in the Governator’s court may have come from Britney’s chance encounter with his wife, Maria Shriver, at the Beverly Hills Hotel last week.

Lutfi was highly critical of Britney’s father and conservator, Jamie, during the conversation.

During the conversation the publicist asked Lutfi for Britney’s phone number but Lutfi declined to give it.

“He wanted Schwarzenegger to call him, and he said he’d hand Britney the phone,” the incredulous eavesdropper reported.
