In the May issue of Wired magazine, the Swedish pop star Robyn is hailed as the anti-Britney Spears: She’s a good-looking blonde who happens to be a talented songwriter, she’s uncompromising when it comes to producing chart-topping hits for a demanding label, and instead of making out with Madonna and divorcing K-Fed, she started her own label and carved out a long and respectable music career.

It is striking to see how two charismatic, talented youngsters could start out along a similar path in the music business and end up in such dramatically different places. As Wired somewhat dramatically put it, their different choices “would lead one to hipster stardom and the other to madness.”

While Robyn scored a mainstream hit with “Show Me Love” in the ’90s, her artistic integrity led her down a different path from the mega-stardom Britney achieved, as she declined to tour with the Backstreet Boys and struck out on her own instead. I, for one, am glad — not just because we don’t need another tragic Britney story but also because Robyn’s music is different but still catchy. Her new video for a song called “Who’s That Girl” seems appropriately timed for the Wired article, as the lyrics make clear she is interested in how we view certain girls in comparison to who they really are inside. Seems like Britney, and a whole host of other starlets, could have benefited from the same self-awareness, no?

Broadway and Television star Rosie O’Donnell wants to take Britney Spears’ place as the celebrity face of “mental illness,” to relieve the pressure on the toxic troubled star. The former View talk show host believes both she and Spears may suffer from bipolar disorder, but insists she is better equipped to deal with the illness and the paparazzi and the media frenzy. Speaking on “Good Morning America,” O’Donnell says, “I have been on anti-depressants since Columbine (1999 high school shooting). “I sort of feel Britney has become the poster child (for mental illness). The kid is very young. She never had a childhood. She never rode a Big Wheel. “Rather than put her face on mental illness, or Brooke Shields, who had postpartum depression, use me.”

Reeling from massive amounts of legal bills and various other expenses that would bankrupt most normal humans, Britney Spears’ father, Jamie Spears, has been working hard to stop the bleeding from his daughter’s bank accounts.

Since he took over running Britney’s legal, medical and career affairs earlier this year after she began treatment for bipolar disorder, Jamie oversaw her role on How I Met Your Mother, and may be helping plan a future world tour.

Sources say that as Brit’s co-conservator, Jamie Spears is currently in the midst of discussions with Danish celebrity broker Claus Hjelmbak to “bring Danish accent pieces to the United States … Britney Spears will be the face of the brand.”

Hjelmbak and the pop star met at the Scandinavian Style Mansion in December 2007, when Britney Spears was supposedly paid upwards of $1 million just to celebrate her birthday at the event, which was hosted by Sharon Stone.

This guy is also the same shady character who promised Rolling Stone’s Vanessa Grigoriadis he could help her get an interview with the star - if the magazine ponied up millions. Maybe not the best kinda guy for Brit to hang with.

The ‘Toxic’ singer - who lost all visitation rights to two-year-old Sean Preston and 18-month-old Jayden James in January following a stand-off with police - has recently had limited access to the boys and is now showing signs of responsible parental behavior.

Mark Vincent Kaplan, lawyer for Britney’s ex-husband Kevin Federline, who currently has sole custody, told OK! magazine: “Britney’s progress over the last two months is good. But it’s premature to say that two months shows a pattern of consistency.”

“We need to see a steady, consistent trend of behavior for a while. The goal is consistency over time with nothing at all out of the ordinary.”

Once Britney has proved she is a suitable mother, Kaplan says Kevin is keen for her to be involved in the boys’ everyday lives.

He said: “Kevin’s goal involves primary custody but also involves his desire to see Britney become, over time, a solid and substantial figure in her boys’ lives. And she is inching toward that.”

Earlier this year, Britney was sectioned at a Los Angeles psychiatric hospital following her bizarre behavior. Her father Jamie is currently in control of all her affairs.
